About “Calix Meus Inebrians”

I believe you're doing yourself a favor by drinking deeply from "Calix Meus Inebrians." (Patricia Mullen from Facing North)

“While my last offering, “November”, dealt mainly with my early years and personal issues and struggles with relationships and addiction, this new album is more of a celebration of the past few years of sobriety, health, spiritual growth and as a human just grateful for this brief, crazy ride we call “life”. In these recordings I make reference to old friends, present and departed, and illustrate my journey through dark periods where I’ve emerged intact - though bruised. We have all been through these dark days together, pandemics or otherwise, and we are still here. We have not been beaten. Not yet. Not ever.
I think of this album as a bright, optimistic look at the future, with occasional backward glances, a “Hommage” if you will, at the path I was on during the writing of “November”, but firm, strong steps forward on a better way. The three years since releasing “November” have been the best of my life - largely due to the success of “November” - and I am just so grateful to have been here to share it with you all through concerts and radio play. I am truly blessed. My cup is full. Totally full and overflowing. I am drunk with blessings. Calix Meus Inebrians.”

A wildflower doesn’t care how unique it is. It just “is”. A rare beauty in a sea of normal. This is a song for Amelie.

I’ve lost many friends over the years. That’s the price of getting older. You can’t have the pain without the affection. It’s just part of the package. Part of life. This song is dedicated to my longtime friend Klaudia.

As a child growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountain region of Northern Virginia, many local legends and myths were taken as the truth by many old and young alike. One such legend goes that when a beloved pet dies, an angel cries. Then angel’s tears hit the ground and in their place a red fern grows. I find it comforting to think of a higher power which has affection for such a wonderful creation that are animals.

December 26, 1998 I woke up bruised and battered in the early morning on the side of the road on Interstate 81.  The sirens of ambulances and police cars gave a very profound underscore to the freshly fallen snow. I smiled through my tears at the prospect of re-birth. The idea I was around, yet again, for a “do-over”.

“Wow, that St. Stephen's Day... that is SO beautiful. My favorite track on the album, I think. Really, really nice.” (David Nevue from Whisperings: Solo Piano Radio)

Your voice shook me like thunder in the mountain, your love descended upon me like a rain cloud in the desert sky, and I knew I was not alone - nor never was.

Remember me

“The mood here is so deep and emotional I can feel a lump in my throat forming and a tear in the corner of my eye.” (Steve Sheppard from One World Music Radio)

This is a just a little song for my good friend Henri, who has a house in the Churfirsten region (Switzerland) and has hiked those familiar trails for many, many years alone and with his family.  Monday night at choir practice we greet each other with “Alles Klar? Alles Klar.” (Everything’s Fine). I feel everything really is fine - despite these troubled times we live in.
